NAAWP CRIMES NEWS UPDATE: 03-23-2014

Now for the REST of the STORY:

A Chicago man is being held in the DuPage County Jail after he
was charged Thursday with threatening a witness in the investigation of the
murder of a Bensenville store clerk in January, officials said.

Stephan A. Russell, 20, of the
3500 block of West Armitage, is the third man arrested in connection to the
Jan. 19 death of Hussein Saghir, 36, who was shot to death during a botched
robbery outside the convenience store on Irving Park Road where he worked.

Russell was being held in lieu of $2.5 million bail on charges
of intimidation and harassment of a witness, said Paul Darrah, spokesman for
the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Two men have previously been
charged with first-degree murder in Saghir’s death, though authorities have
said neither is the alleged shooter.

According to court records, Russell threw an object on March 14
at a vehicle being driven by the mother of Kenneth Bardlett, who was the first
man arrested in the Saghir murder.

Russell’s actions were meant to
convey a threat to Bardlett’s mother, according to the documents.

Bardlett, 20, of Bellwood, and the shooter are alleged to have
confronted the clerk outside the store.

After the shooting, Bardlett and
other man were allegedly driven away by a Chicago man named Tremayne Davis, who
was arrested Feb. 23 and charged with murder. Bardlett was taken into custody
around Feb. 11, about three weeks after the shooting.
