...................... After more than five hours of blistering cross-examination, a federal prosecutor ended his questioning of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin with a bang.

"You sold your office, didn't you," Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Coman asked Nagin, whose initial confidence on the witness stand gave way to despondence.

"No. I did not," Nagin said.

Robert Jenkins, Nagin's defense attorney, spent less than 10 minutes in his last chance questioning Nagin before declaring he was resting his case, ending the presentation of witnesses.

For the better part of Friday, Coman grilled Nagin on his relationship with now-convicted businessmen Rodney Williams, owner of Three Fold Consultants; and Frank Fradella, former CEO of disaster management firm Home Solutions of America. Both men testified that they paid Nagin bribes, in the form of cash, trips and truckloads of granite, in exchange for multi-million city contracts. Coman also pressed Nagin on his stake in Stone Age LLC, a granite countertop company for which Nagin has insisted he was only the financier. But prosecutors say Nagin a major ownership stake in the company for which the ex-mayor actively solicited cash infusions from city vendors.

As he wrapped up his questioning, Coman fired off a series of fiery questions:

"Are you planning on taking responsibility for your actions? You met with each of the contractors who gave money to Stone Age, didn't you?"

"That's incorrect," Nagin said.

"You didn't provide honest services to the citizens of New Orleans, did you?" Coman asked. "You solicited bribe payments. You never got anyone else besides city contractors to invest in Stone Age."

"That's incorrect," Nagin replied. "I did not solicit any city contractor for money for Stone Age," Nagin declared.

"Mr. Nagin, you sold your office, didn't you?" Coman asked. Nagin denied the charge, and Coman declared, "No further questions."

Closing arguments are set for Monday. Nagin is charged in a 21-count indictment of bribery, tax fraud and other charges.......................
