NAAWP COONCARGO CRIME REPORT for 09-14-2014
A 17-year-old boy was killed and 10 other people were wounded -- including two people on the Kennedy and Dan Ryan expressways -- in shootings across the city since Friday night.
The teenage boy was fatally shot in the head Saturday afternoon in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood.
He was shot shortly before 3 p.m. in the 3900 block of South Prairie, police said.
The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. His name was not released Saturday evening pending notification of his family.
Police said the shooting is gang-related, and that the boy was a documented gang member.
The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred early Sunday on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side.
A man, whose age was not immediately known, was in a vehicle travelling southbound on Interstate 90/94 when he was shot near the 79th Street exit, Illinois State Police said.
That person was taken to Christ Medical Center, but further information was not available.
Just two hours earlier, at 1 a.m., a male was shot on the Kennedy Expressway on the West Side.
The male — whose age was not immediately known — was in a red Ford Mustang that was heading northbound on I-90 when he was shot near the Fullerton exit ramp, police said.

Embattled former American football star Darren Sharper surrendered to police in Los Angeles on Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued by authorities in New Orleans, Louisiana in connection with two additional charges of rape.
The retired sportsman turned himself in to cops hours after representatives at the Orleans Parish district attorney’s office announced that the 38 year old and his associate Erik Nunez had each been hit with two counts of aggravated rape.
The charges relate to an incident which allegedly took place with two women in a New Orleans apartment on Sept. 23.
If found guilty, the suspects could face life in prison without parole.
The incidents are the latest legal woes for the former Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints player.
Last week, Sharper pleaded not guilty to claims he drugged and then raped two women in L.A. as part of an ongoing investigation. If convicted in that case, he faces more than 30 years behind bars.
Court documents filed in early February revealed additional allegations from alleged victims in Las Vegas and Tempe, Arizona.
The accusations have cost Sharper his job as an analyst for the NFL Network, as he has been suspended without pay.

The league had suspended the player for two games. When a video surfaced earlier this week showing the running back belting his girlfriend (now wife) in an Atlantic City elevator, the league suspended Rice indefinitely and the Baltimore Ravens released him.'
"The only workable solution is for Roger Goodell to resign and for his successor to appoint an independent investigator with full authority to gather factual data about domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking within the NFL community and to recommend real and lasting reforms," Terry O'Neill, the group's president, opined in a statement.
"We lost a true legislative hero in Ted Kennedy'a defender of women, children and all those who are discriminated against and underserved in this country," O'Neill reflected five years ago upon the death of the longtime Massachusetts senator. The group labeled Kennedy, who disappeared for hours after driving Mary Jo Kopechne to her death at Chappaquiddick in 1969, a "champion" of "women's equality" and "reproductive freedom."
"We do not know what happened in the Lewinsky case," NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund executive director Kathy Rodgers commented in the late 1990s. "The only thing that is clear is that the facts are not clear." Until Kathleen Willey, who had accused the president of rape, appeared on 60 Minutes, she elicited mostly silence from the group. NOW offered an "unable to comment responsibly" before belatedly acknowledging the seriousness of the charge.
No office holder within NOW resigned as a result of the group's see-no-evil-hear-no-evil-speak-no-evil response to numerous charges of abusive treatment of women by the president.
