Sometimes marriages last forever, sometimes they end in divorced, things happen because our lives are chocked-full of twists and turns. Couples fall out of love, they drift apart, but in general, parents never stop loving their children.

Father alienation rarely looks dramatic from the outside. It tends to be gradual. Calls go unanswered, visits are cancelled at the last minute, and small criticisms are repeated until they harden into a story. Children are told your father has moved-on, he has a new life, he doesn't have time for you, he never really loved you, you don't need him, he is a liar, he is a cheater, he and his new significant other are both pigs. Over time the child begins to repeat those words as their own. How sad is it that the father who once helped them with homework, took them to the park, played with them in the backyard, put things together for them to enjoy like swings, playhouses and swimming pools. Fathers who took them to movies, concerts and read bedtime stories to them nightly over-time become enemy number one. Parents should teach their to love their father, respect their father and the importance of maintaining a loving relationship with their father.

Sadly, a child that shares a father's face, a father's laugh, and a father's temperament who has been taught to despise him, can come to feel that parts of themselves are defective. They learn to hide those traits to stay safe in the home that remains. Fathers carry their own grief through this. They face accusations they cannot easily answer. Fathers become exhausted from fighting for access often cause fathers to simply withdraw after years of rejection. The Catch-22 is that a father's withdrawal is often misread by the child as proof of disinterest. It's a cycle that keeps repeating itself month after month and year after year. A child's bond with their father should never be used as a bargaining chip, and it is not the property of whichever parent holds primary custody.

In summary, mothers often use this as form of parental alienation for revenge, rejection and manipulation.
