A 33-year-old BLACK SAVAGE with a criminal record that includes an arrest in a murder case was taken into custody this week in connection with two recent armed robberies in the Hollygrove area, New Orleans police said.
BLACK SAVAGE Chesley Harris is charged with two counts of armed robbery and several other charges relating to stolen property. See the NOPD news release for more details:
New Orleans Police Second District detectives arrested 33-year-old BLACK SAVAGE Chesley Harris wanted in connection with two Armed Robberies.
On June 12, 2014, at the intersection of Oleander and Cherry Streets, BLACK SAVAGE Harris robbed his victim at gunpoint and demanded the keys for the victim’s vehicle. Harris then entered the vehicle and fled the area. Officers and detectives canvassed the area and located the victim’s vehicle within a half hour from the time the crime occurred.
During the course of the follow-up investigation, the detectives were able to identify BLACK SAVAGE Harris as the perpetrator of the Armed Robbery. Detective Samuel Jennings obtained a warrant for Harris’ arrest.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in the evening hours, Second District detectives arrived at BLACK SAVAGE Chesley Harris’ residence in the 3900 block of Hollygrove in an attempt to locate him. BLACK SAVAGE Harris was located inside the residence and subsequently arrested for the Armed Robbery that occurred on June 12, 2014.
As a result of the follow-up investigation, detectives located property inside BLACK SAVAGE Harris’ residence taken in an Armed Robbery that had occurred earlier in the day on June 24, 2014, at approximately 8:33am, in the 9000 block of Olive Street.
In this Armed Robbery, the victim was approached by an African-American BLACK SAVAGE male, thin build, armed with a handgun, demanding the victim’s wallet and keys to his vehicle. The victim complied and the perpetrator fled in the victims Dodge Ram “Big Horn” truck. BLACK SAVAGE Harris was identified as the person responsible for this Armed Robbery.
The Dodge Ram truck was located a short distance from BLACK SAVAGE Harris’ residence.
BLACK SAVAGE Chesley Harris was arrested for both Armed Robberies and additionally charged for a Probation Violation, as well as being a Felon with a Firearm.
BLACK SAVAGE Harris is considered a possible career criminal with 12 felony arrests and 10 misdemeanor arrests. He is currently on parole for Unauthorized Use of a Moveable until March 2019. Harris was arrested for Second Degree Murder in November 2013 and Attempted First Degree Murder in 2006. BLACK SAVAGE Harris has also previously been arrested for Felon with a Firearm, Possession of Ecstasy, Possession of Marijuana, Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting an Officer, Flight from an Officer, Simple Burglary, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Criminal Damage, Possession of a Stolen Auto, Possession of Stolen Property, Public Intoxication, traffic violations, warrants, and attachments.

Louisiana's public schools were comparatively unsafe places in the 2011-12
academic year, according to data released Tuesday by the National Center for
Education Statistics. Louisiana had the highest rate of high school students
reporting they got into a fight on campus: 16 percent, tied with the District
of Columbia. And Louisiana had the highest rate of teachers reporting they had
been threatened with injury at school: 18 percent.
The report came out the same day a student opened fire in an Oregon high
school, killing one of his peers and injuring a teacher. The assailant was
later found dead by authorities.
Nine percent of Louisiana high school students said they had been threatened or
injured with a weapon on school property, the fifth-highest rate among 38
states and the District of Columbia. Seven percent of teachers said a student had
attacked them, the seventh-worst rate.

When we think of
government corruption (as one tends to do), our biased minds often
gravitate to thoughts of military juntas and third world governments. But, of
course, corruption is everywhere, in one form or another. And it’s costing U.S.
citizens big time.

A new study from
researchers at the University of Hong Kong and the Indiana University estimates
that corruption on the state level is costing Americans in the 10 most corrupt
states an average of $1,308 per year, or 5.2% of those states’ average
expenditures per year.

The researchers studied
more than 25,000 convictions of public officials for violation of federal
corruption laws between 1976 and 2008 as well as patterns in state spending to
develop a corruption index that estimates the most and least corrupt states in
the union. Based on this method, the most corrupt states are:

That these places landed
on the list isn’t exactly surprising. Illinois, which has gain notoriety for
its high-profile corruption cases in recent years, is paired with states like
Mississippi and Louisiana, which are some of the least economically developed
in the country. The researchers also found that for 9 out of the 10 of the most
corrupt states, overall state spending was higher than in less corrupt states
(South Dakota was the only exception). Attacking corruption, the researchers
argue, could be a good way to bring down state spending without hurting
services that people need.

Clinton: Cantor opponent 'ran against immigrants'

Hillary Rodham Clinton says Majority Leader Eric Cantor "was defeated by a candidate who basically ran against immigrants."
Clinton is in Chicago Wednesday promoting her new book.
Cantor lost a GOP primary Tuesday to tea party-backed candidate David Brat. Clinton says Brat's argument was if Americans are unemployed, then the U.S. shouldn't allow immigrants to work.
Clinton says the answer is to create more jobs, not to deport immigrants in the country illegally. The potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate says many immigrants are doing jobs Americans won't do.
Clinton calls legislation approved by the Senate that would provide a pathway to citizenship for immigrants in the U.S. illegally "a fair compromise."
She also says she supports President Barack Obama's draft regulations to limit carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants.
