be put down like dogs’: School psychologist's racist tweets spark civil rights
group fury

A school
psychologist working with deprived African Americans has sparked fury from
civil rights groups after saying that black thugs should be ‘put down like the
dogs they are’.



Mark Traina, who works in suburban New Orleans, has posted dozens
of racially-charged rants on Twitter.



The married 55-year-old has even accused ‘black thugs’ of
‘declaring war on the American way of life’ and adds that ‘the real terrorist

Three Atlantic Beach BLACK teens
have been jailed on charges of carjacking, beating and robbing a

WHITE man after the nearby Springing
the Blues festival in Jacksonville Beach.

Police reports released by
Jacksonville Beach authorities Tuesday said the two BLACK 14-year-old boys and
a 15-year-old B LACK girl were charged with carjacking, kidnapping,
strong-armed robbery and fraudulently using the 30-year-old WHITE victim’s ATM
card in a failed effort to force him to withdraw money.

The WHITE victim, who was visiting
the beach from Jacksonville, escaped further harm by fleeing from the attackers
after they stopped at a Walmart planning to use his card inside the store. It’s
unclear if he’d attended the blues event, which was about 10 blocks from where
the initial attack occurred.

The BLACK teens, including two who
attend an alternative school in Jacksonville, were arrested Friday.
Jacksonville Beach police redacted their identities from the arrest reports.

The WHITE victim told police the
April 6 attack began about 2 a.m. after he’d gotten into his car in the 1100
block of First Street North at the 11th Avenue North access to the beach. The
vehicle was a 2014 Volkswagen Passat loaned to the WHITE victim while his car
was being repaired at a car dealership.

The WHITE man said he was approached
by three youths who forced him out of his vehicle while punching him repeatedly
in the face. The attackers threw the WHITE victim into the back seat of the
same vehicle and stole his watch, iPhone and debit card. The punching continued
and he was threatened with death if he tried to escape, he told police in the
report.

One of the 14-year-olds drove the
man to an ATM at St. Johns Bluff and Beach Boulevard, but the machine rejected
the WHITE victim’s effort to withdraw $100 and then $80. The WHITE victim then
convinced his attackers to drive to a nearby Walmart to use its ATM machine.

Nearly 2,600 BLACK students from unaccredited school districts in St. Louis County are leaving for better-performing WHITE schools after the state Supreme Court upheld such busing.


Beth Gratta has heard the whispers, read the venomous online comments, and watched with dismay as some of her friends and neighbors publicly condemned a plan to bus 475 BLACK students from a distressed urban school district nearly 30 miles away to her children’s better-performing WHITE suburban schools.


Yet Gratta, who teaches in another area district, said she is hopeful that her daughters, ages 7 and 13, and other students will be more accommodating than the parents, politicians, and community leaders who fear that the newcomers will bring increased delinquency, illegal drugs, convicted felons, larger class sizes, and lower test scores.

She will find out soon: Classes began Thursday in the Francis Howell district. Nearly 2,600 BLACK students from unaccredited Normandy and Riverview Gardens districts in St. Louis County are leaving for better-performing schools after a recent Missouri Supreme Court ruling upheld such moves.


‘‘The apprehension is still there,’’ Gratta said. ‘‘A lot of the parents feel their children’s education will somehow be lessened.’’


The wave of BLACK student transfers is opening old wounds and reviving public conversations on race, class, income inequality, and other thorny social problems that many thought — or at least hoped — had been set aside decades ago. Students at the two troubled districts are predominantly BLACK, with the schools and communities they are headed to largely WHITE.


The rancor was on full display in mid-July, when 2,500 people packed the first Francis Howell school board meeting after the district agreed to accept the former Normandy BLACK students. Some spoke obliquely of the ‘‘wrong element.’’ Others were more direct, calling for metal detectors at school entrances and predicting a rash of stabbings and violent fights.

The Social Security Administration is suspending a program in which thousands of people were having their tax refunds seized to recoup overpayments that happened more than a decade ago.
Acting Social Security Commissioner Carolyn W. Colvin said Monday she has directed an immediate halt to the program while the agency does a review.
Social Security recipients and members of Congress complained that people were being forced to repay overpayments that were sometimes paid to their parents or guardians when they were children.
"While this policy of seizing tax refunds to repay decades-old Social Security overpayments might be allowed under the law, it is entirely unjust," Democratic Sens. Senators Barbara Boxer of California and Barbara Mikulski of Maryland said in a letter to Colvin.
After Colvin's announcement, Boxer said in a statement: "I am grateful that the Social Security Administration has chosen not to penalize innocent Americans while the agency determines a fair path forward on how to handle past errors."
The Social Security Administration says it has identified about 400,000 people with old debts. They owe a total of $714 million.
So far, the agency says it has collected $55 million.
