Police say the beating of a cyclist along a Philadelphia street was not part of the nationwide “knockout game” trend as they initially believed.
The male victim was riding his bike along 13th and Catherine Streets in the Bella Vista section of the city just before 8 p.m. on Friday when he was randomly punched by a group of teens, police said.
“One guy and two of his friends came to shake me off my bike and started hitting me while I was down,” said the victim, who did not want to be identified.
After being hit, the cyclist says he asked the group–made up of five teen boys and three teen girls–why they hit him. Without answering, the group then continued beating the man.
The victim met up with police at Broad and Carpenter Streets following the attack. While he was shaken, his injuries were not life-threatening and he did not need to be hospitalized.
Philadelphia detectives initially told NBC10 they believed the teens were playing the “knockout game” when they beat the man.

However, on Saturday, police told NBC10 that after further investigation they determined the assault of the cyclist was not part of the nationwide trend.

Two attacks at SEPTA stations over the past few weeks had officials in Philadelphia concerned the violent trend had come here. However, authorities also determined those attacks were not related.

While Friday’s incident was not related to the game, news of the attack still prompted several South Philadelphia residents to take their concerns to social media, calling on city leaders to take action.
The group, calling themselves “Taking Our South Philadelphia Streets Back” launched an online campaign to bring the “knockout” game to the attention of the city’s leaders, including Mayor Nutter and Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
“Our citizens are sick and tired of living in fear due to teens thinking this is a game,” wrote the group’s leader Marc Ferguson. “I am here by calling upon the District Attorney, Mayor Michael Nutter, City Council and all of Philadelphia’s legislators to come together and KNOCK OUT, “The Knock Out Game”.”

NBC10 spoke with Mayor Nutter who said that such attacks “will not be tolerated.”
“I’ve had conversations with Commissioner Ramsey,” Nutter said. “Police officers are paying attention but now that this national phenomenon is sweeping across the country, we need to nip this one in the bud.”

Mr. Obama, even though we have extreme opposite views, we have one thing in common, we both attended school in Hawaii. However, that’s where the similarities end. You see, as you attended your exclusive, private school, I would ride my bike to Kaimuki High School in one of the roughest areas in Hawaii. Every morning I would ride past Punahou, the exclusive private school you attended and I would notice all of the Bentleys, Maseratis, and fancy foreign cars that all the kids were dropped off in; wow it must have been extremely rough in Hawaii living that life, right? I could only imagine what it was like to have that kind of money. Fortunately for you, not many people are aware of the school that you and the upper class citizens of Hawaii attended. The tuition to attend your exclusive, private school was more than it cost me to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Arizona. You talk a big game when it comes to financial inequality, yet I’m quite sure you have no idea what it’s truly like to have to sacrifice. You were one of the elitist children in Hawaii.
After High School, we each chose very different paths. You were able to attend America’s finest Ivy League schools, while I pursued a career in the military, in hopes of earning a degree. What we have in life as children usually helps to set the tone for how we acheive success later in life. I worked to get where I am today, while it was HANDED TO YOU….Mr. Inequality.

Senior Airman Ret. Brian Kolfage vented his feelings to President Obama in a strongly worded letter that doesn’t mince words:
Dear President Obama,
My name is Brian Kolfage, I’m a triple amputee and retired Air Force veteran who was severely wounded on September 11, 2004 in Iraq.

In 2013, BLACK DEMOCRATS all across AMERICA were trying KNOCK OUT, RAPE, ROB and KILL WHITE REPUBLICANS!
County police have arrested four alleged gang members linked to a fatal hit-and-run crash on Mableton Parkway.
The suspects are accused of beating the victim and then forcing him into the path of a car.
The fatal crash happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday, near Factory Shoals Road and Mableton Parkway. Joshua Heath Chellew, 36, of Mableton was struck by a vehicle and later died.
Authorities said Chellew did not know his attackers. A friend of Chellew said that the two had gone to a gas station when several men jumped Chellew.
"They started punching him. They starting beating on him," said the woman, who asked not to be identified.
Arrest warrants said that the Chellew attempted to escape his attackers by backing into Mableton Parkway. Chellew was then knocked down onto the roadway, where he was struck by the vehicle.
The following four suspects are charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Act. They are currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
- Jekari Strozier (19-year-old male from Mableton, Georgia)
- Antonio Pass (18-year-old male from Mableton, Georgia)
- Johnathan Anthony (18-year-old male from the Mableton, Georgia)
- Kemonta Bonds (18-year-old male from Mableton, Georgia)
Anthony made his first court appearance Tuesday night. The other three suspects are expected to face a judge on Wednesday.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Chellew turned himself into authorities. Police said that he does not face any criminal charges. Authorities said he did pull over and call 911 after he realized that he'd struck someone.
