Prosecutor grills Ray Nagin as corruption trial nears end.
Ray Nagin takes the stand in his federal corruption trial in his own DEFENSE!
After two hours of friendly questioning by his own attorney, Ray Nagin on Thursday afternoon faced the federal prosecutor leading the charge against him in a federal courtroom.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Coman began his cross-examination of the former New Orleans mayor by showing Nagin his oath of office, then he quickly switched gears, asking Nagin about his influence over city contracts, which are at the heart of the 21-count corruption case against him.
"Did you have discretion over contracts?" Coman. "Did you have sole discretion?"
"That's not how the process works, sir," Nagin replied.
The prosecutor responded by asking Nagin to read aloud portions of various executive orders and documents Nagin signed while in office, including a letter in which Nagin said he has "sole discretion" to select a contractor for the multi-million dollar French Market contract." Coman also asked Nagin to read a statute in an executive order he signed that read, "only the mayor may select a provider to receive a professional service contract." Nagin scoffed, telling Coman that he didn't "know what you're trying to say," when Coman asked Nagin about his influence over low-bid contracts. Nagin said while he signs the contracts as the city's chief executor, he doesn't have much to do with how they are awarded. But Coman presented for the jury an email from Nagin to his then-Chief Administrative Officer Brenda Hatfield in which Nagin asked for the phone numbers of all winning bidders in order to "call them personally so the key contact is not a department head but the mayor."
Still, Nagin mostly remained cool and calm under Coman's first hour of questioning, even joking with the prosecutor, who leaned against the witness stand as Nagin was reviewing a document.
When Nagin's defense attorney Robert Jenkins objected, Nagin offered with a laugh: "He's good, I can deal with him. Lean closer. We're friends."
Coman segued into questions about Rodney Williams, convicted president of Three Fold Consultants, who testified that he bribed the mayor. Nagin insisted that the fishing trip Williams financed for the mayor, and the economic development trip to Brazil they took together, were casual and did not result in any city business. Nagin told jurors that business for Three Fold Consultants exploded after Hurricane Katrina. But Coman said he believed it had more to do with a $60,000 payoff.
"You guys are trying to tie in the $60,000, God bless you," Nagin replied, chuckling. "I get it."
Coman then presented a 2007 document showing that the selection panel charged with reviewing professional service proposals did not recommend Three Fold Consultants for city work.
As the afternoon went on, Nagin started to show signs of agitation, especially when Coman began grilling Nagin on whether he and Williams were in contact while Williams was seeking a professional services contract. During direct questioning, Nagin told Jenkins that he hadn't spoken with Williams in late 2007 or early 2008. But Coman showed jurors phone records showing phone calls between Nagin and a number linked to Williams' late wife, Charlene.
That's the same day that Nagin's calendar shows a meeting at Stone Age. The government is trying to show that the meeting there was with Williams, who has pleaded guilty to federal crimes in the case.
Coman's questioning was rapid fire, prompting U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan at one point to admonish the prosecutor to let Nagin finish his answers.
Court broke for the day at 4 p.m. Questioning is expected to continue his cross-examination of Nagin Friday morning, when the trial resumes.

Radical Leftist Brags About Sending Obama Executive Orders

For anyone unclear about Barack Obama’s second term platform, he made no attempt to hide his agenda during his recent State of the Union address. He repeatedly asserted his intention to rule by fiat decree whenever Congress opposed him.
Obama and his supporters celebrate the executive order, a bypass around the legislative branch that this administration plans to use in ruling as a monarchy instead of a constitutional republic.
Perhaps even more disturbing than his imperial leadership, however, is the fact that radical partisans in the Democrat Party now feel justified in sending him their proposals with the expectation that he will unilaterally sign them into de facto law.
The most outrageous example of this so far came from far-left Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. As part of the new Congressional Full Employment Caucus, she said her “number one agenda” will be to “write up these executive orders … and ask the president to stand with us on full employment.”
In addition to her radical stance on gun control, Lee has expressed countless other fringe ideas. As part of the new caucus, made up entirely of Democrats, one can only expect more of the same partisan rhetoric. This time, however, she is advertising her direct line to Obama as the key to implementing her policies.
“We will be answering the call of all of America because people need work and we’re not doing right by them by creating work,” she said, recommending more government intervention and willfully ignoring the fact that leftist policies have already cost millions of jobs.
“I believe this caucus will put us on the right path,” she continued, “and we’ll give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign with pride and strength.”
For millions of concerned Americans, it is bad enough Obama feels entitled to rule as a dictator, especially considering the radical leftist influences he cites as his closest advisors. Now, legislators who subscribe to his worldview are willing to cede their own power by circumventing the lawmaking process.
This development further proves too many – especially on the political left – view leadership as a game. With little regard for the Constitution or the people affected by their actions, Lee and other like-minded leaders apparently see furthering the progressive agenda as the only goal worth pursuing.

----------------The former neighborhood watchman’s opponent has finally been picked, out of more than 15,000 email requests.
Rapper DMX has been chosen to be George Zimmerman’s opponent in a celebrity boxing match, which has gained attention nationwide. The details of the fight are yet to be determined, but will be announced at a news conference next Wednesday, according to CNN.
Earlier Wednesday morning, owner of Celebrity Boxing Damon Feldman said he had picked DMX out of more than 15,000 match-up requests, for the three-round, pay-per-view fight.
"The match will be one of the Biggest Celebrity Boxing matches of all time," his news release said.
The idea of doing a celebrity boxing match was originally Zimmerman’s, as he was eager to get back into the sport, which was a hobby of his before he was arrested and put on trial for the 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin.
"Prior to the incident, I was actually going to the gym for weight loss and doing boxing-type training for weight loss," he told Radar Online, CNN notes.
"A mutual friend put me in contact with Damon and provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight-loss goals and also be able to help a charity out," he added.
However, things may get tough for Zimmerman in the ring, as many don’t see this as a friendly match for charity. Another rapper who expressed interest in battling the former neighborhood watchman, The Game, had threated to "beat the f--k out of him." DMX also offered his own threats, telling TMZ just recently that he would be fighting Zimmerman for "every black person who has been done wrong in the system."
"I am going to beat the living f--k out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f--k him right up," DMX told the entertainment outlet. "Once I am done with him, I am going to whip my d--k out and piss on him ... right in his muthaf--kin face."
"Zimmerman is a piece of s--t and that’s what he needs to drink," he added.
According to CNN, a writer for Chelsea Lately, Ian Karmel, also offered an interesting alternative. "They should send Floyd Mayweather to the ring and tell George Zimmerman it's DMX," he tweeted. "He won't know the difference."---------------------

Black History Month: a wretched 28-day miseducation of American children in public schools who aren’t told about all the bad things blacks are able to get away with today, and who are force-fed factually flawed (if not completely fictional) history about how bad slavery was.
At least that’s how Mychal Massie, a black conservative, views it. The columnist and pundit penned a piece for World Net Daily, published Monday, describing the evils of the month.
"Feb. 1 began the 28 day 'ceremony to injustice' that is nothing more than an aversion to modernity that encourages people to mire themselves in the past juxtaposed to embracing the present and the future," Massie, who is also the former chair of the Project 21 National Leadership Network of Black Conservatives, writes.
"Black History Month is used by the nefarious and the corrupt to divide, to evoke blame and guilt, and often for personal gain. Public school children will be immersed in a 28-day vat of a factually flawed and at times fictional history of how bad the blacks had it in America, and they will hear that whites are privileged and their ancestors had slaves, blah-blah-blah."
To prove his point, Massie claims that the things you truly won’t hear about are harmful transgressions of black people such as the "knockout game," for which blacks aren’t "shot on sight." This surely proves that America is more tolerant, he states, but that won’t be talked about in the classroom.
"They won’t be talking about the fact that blacks aren’t shot on sight in areas where 'Knockout' is taking place. For those unfamiliar, the Knockout game is what black thugs play where they suddenly and unexpectedly punch unsuspecting white persons in the face for sport," he says.
"The physical injuries and emotional trauma white victims suffer during these attacks are viewed as 'minor,' and in the majority of cases, the attacks don’t even make it on the evening news or into the newspapers ... And it is paramount to note that these attacks are taking place across America—and it’s happening outside the ghetto. I’d say that shows America has advanced a long way because, according to the racialists flooding the classrooms and airwaves, blacks were barely suffered to walk on the same sidewalk with whites."
Massie also complains that while Trayvon Martin "will be lauded for sainthood ... as an example of white injustice," after George Zimmerman shot and killed him, white victims who were murdered at the hands of black offenders would go unnoticed for the month.-----------------------

prosecution witness was Josephine Beninati, a financial analyst for the U.S.
Attorney's Office, who discussed her examination of documents indicating Nagin
got $511,000 in money, travel, cellular phone service, granite for his family
business and other benefits. Prosecutors say it was all bribes the Democrat
took during and after his two terms in office.

as bribes when they could easily be seen as investments. He focused often on
payments from lead prosecution witness Rodney Williams, saying Williams - prior
to pleading guilty in the case - had once claimed his payments to Nagin's
