Rapidly aging viewers and declining ad revenue make the network's future uncertain

Liberals love to criticize Fox News, and when they do, conservatives love to remind them that Fox has more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined, which is true.
It's an impressive-sounding factoid, until you take into account just how small the entire audience for cable news is. To put it in perspective, Fox News just manages to pull a million viewers during primetime while the lowest-rated network news program, CBS Evening News, has an average nightly audience of 8 million.
And Fox has another problem - their audience is old and only getting older, with the median age of their viewers being 68. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with having one of the oldest audiences in television, except when it comes to advertising, because the target demographic for most ads is between 25 and 54.
Fox's viewership in that key demographic of 25-54 has been steadily declining while CNN has experienced gains. Unless the trend reverses itself or Fox finds a way to enfranchise younger viewers, their audience will begin to shrink in the upcoming years.
Fox also has one of the whitest audiences in television:
Fox Nation is even more monochromatically white than the GOP is, let alone the American nation... According to new Nielsen data, only 1.1 percent of Fox News's prime-time viewership is (not white) as opposed to 25 percent for MSNBC, 14 percent for CNN, and an average of roughly 12 percent for the three broadcast networks' evening news programs.
For the time being, the network will do just fine on the money from its unusually high subscription fees. But how it fares in the future will depend on its ability to make its audience look less like a mostly-white retirement community and more like the rest of country.

7-year-old girl suffered a mild concussion after she was beaten unconscious by four boys at Thomas Claggett Elementary School in District Heights, Md., on

The incident occurred during a recess in the school's gym, into which 75 students were allegedly crammed, with only about five teachers supervising the crowd. The teachers apparently did not see the attack.
The girl was taken to the Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
Needless to say, her parents are outraged and can't fathom how this could have happened, the news site reports.
"That's my baby. I bring her to school and that's the last thing I expect is a phone call informing me that my daughter is unconscious," the girl’s mother, Phersephone Holland, told the station.
Her father, Rodney Smyers, said this was not the first time his daughter had been bullied and attacked at the school, having come home with bruises before.
"One incident, she came home, she had a split in her lip," he said, acknowledging that he had not expected school officials to allow the situation to get this out of hand. "It's an ongoing problem."
Even more concerning to the parents, aside from the apparent lack of supervision, is the fact that the school has not disciplined the boys responsible for the attack, or informed other parents of the incident.
Holland told the news station that her daughter will probably not be returning to the school, thinking her life is in danger.
"It's serious! A child was unconscious … " she said. "It could have been worse than that, she could have died."
Max Pugh, Prince George's County Public Schools spokesperson, told Fox 5 that the incident was being investigated and that parents would be sent letters

We found a few
overstatements and cherry-picked numbers among the applause lines and proposals
in President Obama's State of the Union address.

• He boasted of
businesses creating "more than 8 million new jobs" in the last four
years. But that leaves out a loss of government jobs, not to mention the loss
of jobs earlier in Obama's presidency.

• Obama
credited the Affordable Care Act with signing up more than 9 million Americans
for private insurance or Medicaid. But Medicaid estimates include renewals,
along with new enrollees.

• Obama boasted
that the U.S. "reduced our total carbon pollution more than any other
nation on Earth." Yes, but the U.S. produces a lot of emissions. Looking
at percentage change, dozens of countries did better.

• Federal
deficits have been "cut by half," as he said, but they're still at
historically high levels.

• It's also
true, as Obama said, that for the first time in 20 years, domestic oil
production was greater than imports. But the increase in U.S. production is
primarily due to new technology, not government policy.

ANALYSIS

The president
spoke to Congress and the nation on Jan. 28.

SELECTIVE JOB
GROWTH STAT

Obama referred
to "more than 8 million new jobs our businesses have created over the past
four years." That's true as far as it goes, but it's a highly selective
statistic.

It's true that nearly
8.2 million private sector jobs have been added since
February 2010, which was the low point of the great job slump that began a year
before Obama took office and continued through his first year. But total
employment has risen less – by 7.6
million — held back by layoffs of state and local government
workers. Obama was technically correct, as he was careful to speak of jobs
"our businesses have created."

His 8 million
figure also leaves aside the nearly 4.2 million private sector jobs that were
lost between the time he took office and the time the slump bottomed out.
Overall, the net job gain since he took office stood at just over 3.2
million (or nearly 4 million if counting only private sector jobs),
as of the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics figures for December.

A rare snowstorm impacting Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday caused massive headaches for commuters, snarled traffic on highways for nearly 20 hours, and spawned images of commuters sleeping in drugs stores and supermarkets. The city of Atlanta’s apparent lack of preparedness has resulted in criticism of Mayor Kasim Reed. On Wednesday, Reed joined CNN anchor Carol Costello for a hostile interview in which the mayor repeatedly insisted that “independent” entities were responsible for the lack of preparedness and the outrage aimed at him was misdirected.
“You know how angry people are at you,” Costello asked.
“I don’t feel that people angry at me,” Reed replied.
“There are plenty of people who say the school children should never have been placed in that position,” Costello shot back, “that schools should have been closed before the weather hit.”
“Let me say this: if you’re being fair, you would point out that the Atlanta public school system makes the call on when the system is closed,” Reed replied.
“You ought to be fair with the interview,” he continued. “The Atlanta public school system calls and the school systems independently call when they close.”

Reed said he would have preferred to close the schools, but the city is deserving of praise for the lack of traffic-related deaths.
“I’ve heard this from public officials before,” Costello replied. “We didn’t have any fatalities, but that was just by the grace of God.”
“No, it’s not by the grace of God,” Reed countered.
“People got out of their cars in icy situations,” Costello insisted.
“That’s easy to say from your anchor seat,” Reed said dismissively.
When Costello insisted that she was among the thousands stuck in weather-related traffic, Reed told her to pull up the cameras outside of CNN’s Atlanta headquarters. “It looks pretty good outside of CNN,” he said.

First President to fly in a personal trainer from Chicago at least once a week at taxpayer expense.

First President to repeat the Holy Quran and tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth

First President to side with a foreign nation over one of the American 50 states (Mexico vs Arizona).

First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance because they ?volunteered to go to war and knew the consequences.?

Then he was the First President to tell the members of the military that THEY were UNPATRIOTIC for balking at the last suggestion. (Thank God he didn?t get away with THIS one.)
