The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office confirms that the man shown punching 17-year-old Brady Becker repeatedly in the head in a Lakeside Mall parking garage on Feb. 13 was a plain clothes officer who had been working the parade route.

Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato said he was waiting for all of the details from the police report, but he said the officer was trying to arrest Becker for an unknown offense when Becker resisted.

Becker sustained an eye injury. Fortunato said he was treated at the hospital and then booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Facility on charges that include resisting arrest.

“The matter has been brought to our attention," Fortunato said. "We encouraged the family to file a complaint with internal affairs. It will be investigated fully.”

According to the St. Charles Catholic High School web site, Becker is a member of both the football and baseball teams and is set to graduate in 2016.
