Anthony Weiner dropped a bombshell on the mayor’s race Wednesday — emerging from two years of self-imposed exile to declare he’s weighing a run for City Hall.
In a carefully calibrated rollout, he gave a lengthy soul-baring magazine interview, then emerged freshly scrubbed from his Manhattan building Wednesday to face the full press corps — and extended an invite for more talk time.
“I’d be glad to sit down with each of you individually sometime next week,” he said before thanking the reporters for staking him out.
The highly orchestrated flirtation with reentry sent the major Democratic mayoral candidates scrambling, and it left scandal-scarred Weiner with a tight timetable to decide whether he’s all in.
Weiner has to make his intentions known by June 10 to add $1.6 million in public matching funds to his already impressive $4.3 million campaign war chest.
