New Orleans BLACK teen pleads guilty to killing BLACK high schooler, gets 35 years!
A New Orleans high school student who was just 15 when he was charged in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to the crime Tuesday (June 23), and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Just as jury selection was to begin in his second-degree murder trial, Justin Walker, 18, accepted prosecutors' offer to plead guilty to manslaughter in the Jan. 8, 2013, death of Aaron "Rasta" Ganier in the 7th Ward.
Ganier's family last saw him on Jan. 4, 2013, a Saturday, when he was driven to ReNew Academy to take a make-up test, according to a police report. After learning he couldn't take the test, he was left with his girlfriend.
When he never returned, his family filed a missing person's report with New Orleans police, thinking he might have run away, according to court records. At his school, meanwhile, rumor circulated among staff and students that Ganier had been shot and killed.
That was confirmed a few days later. Police received a tip from a woman reporting that a body was behind an abandoned and blighted house at 1667 North Rocheblave St.
Along with Ganier's body, investigators found several .40-caliber bullet casings. Ganier had been shot several times, including at least once in his face. An argument led to the shooting, police believe.

two-parent homes. In 2010, blacks (approximately 13% of the U.S. population) accounted for 48.7% of all arrests for homicide, 31.8% of
arrests for forcible rape, 33.5% of arrests for aggravated assault, and 55% of
arrests for robbery. Also as of 2010, the black poverty rate was 27.4% (about 3 times higher than the white rate), meaning that 11.5
million blacks in the U.S. were living in poverty.
