The inconsistency between what people believe and how they behave motivates them to engage in actions that will help minimize feelings of discomfort. People attempt to relieve this tension in different ways, such as by rejecting, explaining away, or avoiding new information. EXAMPLES: PRESIDENT BIDEN wants U.S. to BELIEVE that he is proud of his son HUNTER, that he is TRUSTWORTHY, COMPETENT and COHERENT, that BIDENOMICS is WORKING well for all of U.S., that INFLATION is not RISING, that our NATIONAL DEBT is DECREASING and that our SOUTHERN BORDER is more SECURE now than it has ever been!
