DATE: 05-08-2015 I am requesting a FORMAL INTERNAL INVESTIGATION into this
FORMAL MAL-PRACTICE COMPLAINT against ICU CRITICAL CARE NURSE - XXX My name is
Mark Traina, I am 58-years old and I live in Slidell! I am a Civil Rights
Activist and a Staff Member of the National Association for the Advancement of
White People. This is my Story: I was tortured and verbally assaulted after
having Open Heart Surgery in the Intensive Care Unit at Lakeland Regional
Hospital in Covington, Louisiana I had failed an EKG, as well as, a Nuclear
Stress Test in week earlier, so on Friday 04-24-2015 I went to the Lakeview
Regional Hospital for an Angiogram and was told that I might have some sort of
blockage that could possibly require the implantation of a Stint or two. During
the Angiogram Doctors quickly determined that my blockages were in the severe,
some in the 90% range. I was scheduled for immediate Open Heart Surgery on
Monday April 27th, 2015, at noon. I was told not to leave the Hospital, because
my condition was too dire. I was then sent up to Room 202, to relax and prepare
myself for Monday’s Open Heart Surgery. Soon the Heart Surgeon came in to discuss
the surgery – he showed me all the places where he would cut me and we talked
about my Diet, Exercise and my future Recovery Plan. I could tell that he was a
very caring Doctor and I felt Peace putting my life in his hands. Over the
weekend I met many fine Hospital Staff Members and the care that I received was
spectacular. One particular Staff Member, a young Critical Care Nurse, just
happen to be picking up another Nurses’ shift on the second floor on Saturday
Night. That young Nurse came into my room as my wife Starla was watching
Television and I was preparing an Article for the NAAWP - somehow a
conversation ensued. This young Nurse seemed to be truly interested in my work,
so it seemed that one conversation lead to another, as time passed. On Sunday I
did not see or talk to this young Nurse again, though I wondered whether or not
she had shared any of our discussion with Family Members, Friends or other
Hospital Staff Members. Sunday I spent my day surrounded by Family Members and
Friends, we laughed, Joked and pretended that my impending Open Heart Surgery
was either no big deal or simply not anything worth worry about. It was a done
deal and that the surgical procedure would be a Life-Saving Godly Intervention.
Sunday morning came in a rush, I was told to bath and prepare for Pre-Opt,
which I did. At 12:30 PM the Nurses arrived with a Gurney and they took me from
my Hospital Bed and slid my body aboard and off we went to Pre-Opt. I was not
scared, but I knew that the world as I knew it was about to change dramatically
and that the next time I seen myself I would look as if my body had passed
through a Waring Blender. Pre-Opt went without a hitch and at some unknown
point I was wheeled into Surgery. I received 5-bypasses and remained in surgery
for many hours. My Open Heart procedure was standard and without any serious
complications to my knowledge. At approximately 10:30 PM on Monday evening I
was wheeled into the ICU. My immediate Family Members were allowed a quick
visit and I was placed into the hands of a Critical Care Nurse by the name of
XXX, who assured my Family Members at 10:30 PM that I was in good hands, there
was no need for any worry, that all would be fine and that he was certain that
I would sleep through the night. XXX then encouraged them to go home, get some
rest and come back the next morning. At 12:30 AM on Tuesday morning I regained
consciousness, intubated, in severe pain, struggling to breathe, scared, laying
on a Gurney in ICU with Nurse XXX hovering over the top of me! He kept telling
me to “Man Up and Stop Acting like a Little Girl”. I was wiggling around on the
Gurney with severe right shoulder pain. My hands were tied to the rails. I was
struggling to breathe and the breathing tubes in my mouth were push in deep at
a left to right angle causing a continuous gagging type reflex to occur inside
of my mouth. I was opening my mouth as wide-open as possible trying to breath
around the tubes and though I could not see myself I know that my eyes must
have been as big as saucers. I was scared to death trying to tell Nurse XXX
that something was wrong. He kept saying, “Man you need to Man Up”, “You are
just coming out of Open Heart Surgery – what did you expect?” I motioned with
my right hand for him to give me a pencil and a piece of paper hoping to
communicate with him. (I wanted to tell Nurse XXX that my breathing tubes were
inappropriately seated in my mouth and that my right shoulder felt as though it
had a 38-caliber bullet lodged in it) At that point Nurse XXX said, “Man I’m not
even going there”, as he walked out of my ICU Room. Moments later he returned
with a roll of medical tape, pushed the tubes in deeper into my mouth (further
into my reflex gland) and taped them as tight as he could to the outside of my
mouth and surrounding facial area. I laid there smothering until 2:30 AM with
Nurse XXX bobbing in and out of the room taunting me, telling me that he was
off to save more lives and that I wasn’t being a Good Soldier. (Interestingly,
I was Nurse XXX’s only Patient that night) At 2:30 AM Nurse XXX entered my room
along with another Nurse and together they removed the intubation tubes. The
first words out of my mouth were, “Man, do you have any idea who you are
fucking with”? XXX’s response was, “I really don’t give a shit”, and I said,
“You need to go and get your phone and put my name in “GOOGLE”, because you are
going to give a shit.” XXX then stormed out of my ICU Room. About 10-minues
later he returned, again saying “You need to man up!” At that point I asked him
to call my Wife and he said, “I am not calling your Wife at 3:30 AM in the
Morning, I am not going to inconvenience her this morning!” At that point I
began to beg “PLEASE CALL MY WIFE?” – “PLEASE CALL MY WIFE?” – “I AM AFRAID OF
YOU!” – “PLEASE CALL MY WIFE? Fortunately for me, another Nurse (A tall Black
Nurse) sitting at the Nurse’s Desk heard my pleas, walked into my ICU Room
Instructing Nurse XXX to call my Wife immediately or that she would. Moments
later I could hear Nurse XXX on the Phone reassuring my Wife that I would be
fine until she could get there later that morning. When Nurse XXX returned to
my room he said, “Your Wife is not coming, you are my Patient and I am
In-Charge of you”! Again I began to chant, “I want to speak to my Wife or my
Daughter”, “I want to speak to my Wife or my Daughter”, “because you are
scaring me”! Soon the Black Nurse entered the room with my Daughter Bobbee on
Phone Messaging, and I said, “Bobbee please come, I am scared of this Nurse!”
Soon after, a third Nurse came in to my room. She appeared to be a White Nurse
about 40 wearing big rim glasses. I held her hand and begged her not to leave
my side until my wife and Daughter arrived. She stayed by my side for
approximately 5-minutes then told me she had to move on to her other duties. At
5:30 AM my Wife and Daughter Arrived. At that point I asked why you all not
here when I awoke were. I said, “Starla, I had a horrible night of trying
breath, my right shoulder is killing me and Nurse XXX was very mean to me”! My
daughter sensing my discomfort began propping up both of my arms bringing me
immediate comfort. Nurse XXX was sharing information with my Wife just outside
of my room about how he had been doing this type of work of 22-years and that
the majority of his Patients were out of the ICU within just a couple of days –
then he pointed at me and said “I think that we are going to have problems with
this one!”. I was still telling Bobbee about all the pain that I was in and
Nurse XXX walked over to my bed and said, “You better get used to the pain,
because they are not going to be given you a lot of pain medicine because you
won’t want to get up to walk”. My Wife said, at that point that she thought,
“OH MY GOD, is he going to have to suffer like this?” Nurse XXX’s Shift was
coming to an end; you could sense Nurse XXX’s feelings of apprehension and
regret for the way that he had mistreated me. He said, “I am sorry if I was a
mean nurse, but I have been doing this for 22-years and sometimes you have to
be tough”! He went on to say, “I won’t be back for 9-days, I am heading for
Jackson Mississippi, but I will be taking you with me!” At that point, I held
my hand out, Nurse XXX shook my hand and left. I was never so happy to see
another person leave. NOTE: At some point between 12:30 PM on Monday 04-27-2015
and 5:30 AM on Tuesday 04-28-2015 I sustained a severe right shoulder injury! I
remained in the ICU from 4-27-2015 through 4-30-2015, approximately 4 days, and
was moved to Room 527B on 04-30-2015 until my Discharge on 05-04-2015. Prior to
being Discharged from the Hospital, the Hospital Administrator Ms. Peggy came
into my Room to meet with my Wife and I. Ms. Peggy said I have been working in
Hospital Settings for the past 38-years and she assured me that a complete
Internal Investigation into my allegations against Nurse XXX had taken place
and for me not to worry that anything similar to my experience in the ICU would
ever happen to another Patient at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She also
stated, “XXX has not been terminated, however, he has recently been placed on a
very short leash!” At that point Ms. Peggy sent an X-XXX Team into my Hospital
Room and to take an additional 6 to 8 eight X-XXXs of my Injured Shoulder. MARK

This Nurse refused to give me a
Paper and Pencil and Refused to call my Wife! He kept calling me a "LITTLE
GIRL" and telling me to "MAN UP"! He also pushed the Breathing
Tubes so far down my Throat that they were causing me to GAG!
