Black Mother gives her Daughter a Gun to Resolve a Conflict!
An argument early last week in New Orleans’ Central City neighborhood that ended with bullets flying and two people injured turned violent because the alleged shooter’s mother gave her a gun, New Orleans police said.
Stephanie Carter, 49, and her daughter, Verquan Carter, 21, were arrested in connection with the shooting that happened about 6:35 p.m. Sunday at South Claiborne and Jackson avenues.
The shooting stemmed from an ongoing feud between Verquan Carter and her ex-girlfriend, according to court documents.
Police allege that Carter opened fire during the argument, hitting and wounding an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old.
One of the victims was struck in the buttocks, the other in the abdomen and the hip, according to court documents.
At least one of the male victims had been involved in the argument. Police did not specify which victim that was.
Detectives said they found surveillance footage that showed Stephanie Carter handing her daughter the gun that a moment later was used in the shooting,
They also interviewed a woman “with knowledge” about the incident who corroborated the action in the video, police said in court documents.
Stephanie Carter was arrested about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. Verquan Carter was taken into custody Tuesday in the 7800 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
